DUAL PEM STOKES POLARIMETER :: APPLICATIONS :: Laser Test and Measurement

The Dual PEM Stokes polarimeter is ideal for testing both fixed polarization state lasers and randomly polarized lasers.

For this application the laser under test is aligned with the Polarimeter.  The resonance-based modulation of the system means it has no moving parts.  This helps ensure that the same point is being measured.

A feature-rich software application developed by Hinds application engineers allows for all Normalized Stokes parameters to be collected at a rate of more than 100 complete Stokes vectors per second.  The software's visual representation of both the values of the Stokes parameters and and their corresponding graphical representation on the Poincare sphere make it easy to determine the polarization state of the laser.  Visible, NIR, and IR lasers can be tested and characterized.

The picture above shows Stokes polarimetry data for a laser advertised as randomly polarized.  Upon testing, one can see that while the polarization state does change, there is no circular component and the laser polarization is not truly random.
